Frederick Douglass will provide a balanced educational experience centered around the arts and sciences. This program strives to offer each student a personalized and dynamic learning experience through movement, fine arts, and student centered instruction.

The goal of the Frederick Douglass Family is to provide a quality educational program for each student in our charge. We will be diligent in providing a continuum of services and support in order to give all students every possible opportunity for success.

Today will decide if I succeed or fail tomorrow. I am going to be successful today in each and every way. I will do my best. I will pass. Life is a test. I will not fail.

Frederick Douglass sought to embody three keys for success in life:

Frederick Douglass said, "What is possible for me, is possible for you." By taking these keys and making them his own, Frederick Douglass created a life of honor, respect and success that he could never have dreamed of when still a boy on Colonel Lloyd's plantation on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Our Resource Coordinator

A key component of a Community Learning Center (CLC) is the network of partners that provide valuable services, resources, and support to students, families, and the school community. Coordinating and aligning these partnerships is essential to the success of the CLC.

As the full-time, on-site Resource Coordinator, Angel Griffin plays an integral role in fostering these partnerships and ensuring that resources are accessible to those who need them.

My Kidz After School Program (Grades K-5): After school program helps support academics

Walnut Hills High School (Grades 3-5): Provide volunteer services, allow students to connect with teenagers inside of another high school opening them up to high school options and helping them to become diverse. Walnut Hills students also support our students academically

Christ Emmanuel (Grades K-5): Tutoring reading and Math.

Walnut Hills Faith Alliance (Grades K-5): Support our Library by providing new books for students. Volunteers read to students weekly. They also make sure students and families receive the proper resources as needed.

Walnut Hills Area Council (Grades K-5): The council is here to support our school as part of their community. If we are needing support with our academics or resources we are able to ask the council for resources. If we are wanting to make a change in our school community we would have to receive their support.

Frederick Douglass Alumni Association (Grades K-5): Educate our students on the history of our school and Frederick Douglass yearly. Provide a yearly program for students.

Girl Scouts of Western Ohio (Grades K-5): The five activity outcomes measured by GSWO are: 1. Sense of Self, 2. Positive Values, 3. Healthy Relationships, 4. Challenge Seeking, and 5. Community problem solving.

Talbert House (Grades K-5): These students will receive specific intervention assistance based on assessment data gathered by content specialists weekly. They will be seen by a licensed therapist.

Project Connect (Grades K-5): Project Connect provides advocacy paired with specialized educational services and lifestyle enrichment opportunities for children who have neither a voice, nor a choice, in experiencing homelessness.

Bush Recreation Center (Grades K-5): Bush Recreational Center supports Douglass students by providing after school services and programming

Activities Beyond the Classroom (Grades K-5): Provides the Cincinnati Learning Center for Douglass. Resource Coordinator supports the school, community, students and families by providing resources.

UC Roads to Medicine (Grades 3-5): meet monthly after school with mentors from Walnut Hills. Supporting students academics

Miami University (Grades 2-5): Student teachers come in to support teachers instruction

Cincinnati Christian Hills Academy (Grades K-5): Student volunteers from CHCA provide different services through their own service learning projects. Students provide 2 weeks of tutoring in January as their service learning project.

Lync Works (Grades K-2): Provide teachers and college interns that are trained in structured literacy. They are supported with materials and supervision to ensure individualized and professional lessons that are taught with compassion.

Xavier University (Grades K-3): Provide techniques and lessons on social and emotional learning

City Gospel (Grades K-5): Provide Douglass students with an after school dance program teaching the art of Ballet for end of the year performance representing Douglass school

Ameri Corp Foster Grandparents (Grades K-5): The goal is to help provide service with mentoring and tutoring and help children with any educational task.

The Well (Grades K-5): The goal is to provide Social emotional services to kids that do not receive services from our mental health partner

DanceFix (Grades 4-5): The goal is to support health and Wellness through Movement

Our History

Frederick Douglass Elementary School has a rich history that dates back to 1858, when it was founded in the home of Reverend Dangerfield Early. In 1870, the school became part of Cincinnati Public Schools, further solidifying its role in providing quality education to the community.

The first Frederick Douglass school building was dedicated in 1872 and located on Alms Place. As student enrollment continued to grow, the need for a larger facility became evident. In November 1911, a new state-of-the-art building was dedicated, featuring 19 classrooms, an auditorium, a library, a gymnasium, and a three-room model apartment designed for domestic science instruction. This historic building also became the birthplace of the Frederick Douglass Alumni Association, which continues to serve and support the school community today.

In 1972, a new Frederick Douglass facility was constructed to accommodate the evolving needs of students and staff. That building currently serves as Cincinnati Public Schools' alternative suspension site.

In August 2007, Frederick Douglass Elementary students moved into the school's current state-of-the-art facility. Designed to support 21st-century learning, the building features modern classrooms, innovative technology, and learning environments that foster academic excellence and student success. These resources help provide students with a rigorous educational experience while preparing them for future opportunities.
