At Frederick Douglass Elementary School, we are committed to providing students with enriching opportunities that support academic achievement, personal growth, leadership development, and social-emotional well-being. Through a variety of programs and extracurricular activities, students are encouraged to explore their interests, develop new skills, and build meaningful connections with their peers and community.

Student Programs

Dear Me Program (Grades 3–5)

The Dear Me Program is designed specifically for girls in grades 3–5 and focuses on empowerment, creativity, leadership, and confidence-building in a supportive and engaging environment. Through interactive activities and meaningful discussions, participants are encouraged to discover their strengths, express themselves, and develop a positive sense of self.

Program highlights include:

  • Self-Care & Confidence Building – Promoting self-awareness, positive self-talk, healthy habits, and self-esteem.
  • Youth Entrepreneurship – Introducing creative thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and basic business concepts.
  • Reflective Journaling – Encouraging self-expression, goal setting, gratitude, and personal growth through guided writing activities.
  • Positive Media & Creative Content Creation – Engaging students in age-appropriate activities that foster creativity, communication, and responsible digital citizenship.

The Dear Me Program incorporates character-building principles that emphasize respect, responsibility, kindness, courage, and leadership while helping students build confidence, strengthen friendships, and develop skills for lifelong success.

Men Organized Respectful and Educated (M.O.R.E.)

M.O.R.E. is an after-school program designed to support boys in their academic, personal, and social development. The program provides a structured environment where students are encouraged to develop the skills, character, and confidence necessary for success in school and beyond.

Program components include:

  • Academic Support – Homework assistance, study skills, goal setting, and academic achievement strategies.
  • Social Skills Development – Building communication skills, teamwork, conflict resolution, and positive decision-making.
  • College & Career Awareness – Exploring educational opportunities, career pathways, leadership development, and future planning.
  • Financial Literacy – Introducing money management, budgeting, saving, and responsible financial habits.
  • Health & Wellness – Promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity, mental wellness, and self-care.

Through mentorship, enrichment activities, and meaningful discussions, M.O.R.E. empowers young men to become confident learners, responsible leaders, and productive members of their school and community.

Ladies of Awesomeness (Grades 3–5)

Ladies of Awesomeness provides girls with opportunities to develop leadership skills, build self-confidence, strengthen peer relationships, and engage in activities that promote personal growth, academic success, and positive character development.

Sign Language Club (Grades 1–5)

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of American Sign Language (ASL) while developing communication skills, cultural awareness, and an appreciation for inclusive communication practices.

Flying Pig Program

The Flying Pig Program encourages students to participate in physical activity, goal setting, and healthy lifestyle practices while preparing for participation in community fitness and wellness events.

Student Clubs

Frederick Douglass Elementary School offers a variety of clubs that allow students to explore their interests, develop new talents, and build leadership and teamwork skills.

  • Robotics Club – Encourages innovation, problem-solving, coding, and engineering skills through hands-on projects.
  • Cooking Club – Introduces students to nutrition, food preparation, kitchen safety, and healthy eating habits.
  • Gardening Club – Provides opportunities to learn about plants, environmental stewardship, and healthy food choices.
  • Book & Reading Club – Promotes literacy, reading comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading.
  • Coffee Club – Develops teamwork, responsibility, customer service, and workplace readiness skills.
  • Student Council – Encourages student leadership, civic responsibility, and active participation in school initiatives.
  • Step Team – Builds teamwork, discipline, coordination, and school spirit through performance and movement.
  • Dance Team – Provides students with opportunities to express creativity, develop confidence, and enhance physical fitness through dance.
